Yes. About a third of participants are learning a sign language for the first time. There is a dedicated beginner workshop group and a "language buddy" pairing for the first two days. All you need is to be deaf or hard of hearing and willing to learn.

You get an email the moment your application arrives. Selection is finished within three weeks of the closing date, and everyone receives a written answer — accepted or not. Nobody is left hanging.

We do not look at grades, English level or signing fluency. Your motivation and what you would bring to the group decide it. We also balance the group across countries, gender and experience.

Every step saves automatically. Come back in the same browser and the form picks up where you left off — nothing has to be typed twice.

You go on the waiting list and are the first to hear when a place opens. You also get priority invitations to our shorter events during the year.

Travel is on you. We do connect people travelling from the same city, so you can book together.

Only after you are accepted. Nothing is paid at application stage. After the acceptance email you have 14 days to decide, and if you change your mind in that window you pay nothing.

Around 80% of participants come alone. The first evening is built around meeting people, and the small "family groups" that run through the whole week exist exactly for this.

All of them. Kitchen staff, camp doctor and activity leaders included. More than half the team is deaf. For hearing volunteers, fluent signing is a hiring requirement.

Every bungalow has a vibrating and strobe-light fire alarm. The site uses strobe alerts and everyone gets a vibrating wristband. We run a visual emergency drill together on day one.

Wooden bungalows for 3–4 people, each with its own bathroom. We match roommates across countries and languages; you can tell us your preference on the form.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy-based menus are standard. Whatever you write on the form goes straight to the kitchen team.

It depends on your nationality. We send the official invitation letter for your visa application within five working days of your acceptance — you do not need to ask for it. If your consulate wants anything else, write to us.

Free transfer from the airport nearest the camp (to be announced). Share your flight details and we match you with the team meeting you.

No. Any age can apply. If you are under 18 we ask for a parent or guardian's consent with the application — that is a legal requirement, not a filter.
